Overview
The most critical issue of the project was to convert the linear megastructure into human scale object while reconstructing the existing system to be dynamically operated.
Inspiration
We started with ‘vital’ as a keyword of our concept. We defined our four segments of the building as “the vital organs,” which plays a pivot role of the existence of the building. Each of these vital organs has four different functions.
The vital lane interweaving all the vital organs is a backbone of the building, maintaining the giant eco-system.
Combining the repetitive elements of Italian Classicism and the modular architecture of the existing galleria of Centergross, the architecture of the complex creates space by expanding vital organs and contracting it in the lane, which seems like a vital sign that gives vital tension to the journey.
Starting with the monument space, designed with the symboilic arch moduels, visitors will get to multi-purpose space open to public. This part can be organized as pop-up stores, exhibition space, and various cultural activities.
The third part is a big space covered by greenery which is the refreshment for the busy area. It is not only for the public, but also for the workers.
Followed by the greenery, you will be able to reach the library full of books placed on the curved shelves.
All the visitors who arrive to the building will unexpectedly face the emptiness covered by nature. From the outside of the building, they will experience the green pocket extended from the historical monument of this area.
The connection by greenery from the park of Villa Orsi will strengthen the locational identity of Centergross itself. Moreover, it is going to be the reason why they have to take a strong stand for the future. It always will be the root of the area and Centergross, and at the end, the fast fashion.
Traffic layout based on the existing site condition including all the mandatory considerations, such as pedestrian path, bike path, road, and the minimum buffer zone between each other.
Basic concept of the street arrangement is to create pockets by easily curving the bike path. Curved path will partially reduce the speed of bike and intervene in the hierarchy of the layers.
Curved path will create the pockets for the pedestrians and these buffer zone is going to be filled with various street furnitures. Not only inside of the building, but the street is going to be the conceptual extension which could bring vitality into the gray area.
